Subject: Re: Is Jesus God??

Hi Craigo:

Always enjoy your e-mails.  I have a question, I have a friend who is a bed ridden because of Multiple Sclerosis; she now has a new caregiver who is Philippino.  I always do a short Bible Study with my friend and as the caregiver was listening, she challenged me with the words “no Jesus is not God.”  What's your take on this?

I've always believed that Jesus is God, but I've never heard the comment or even knew there are those out there that believe Jesus is not God yet consider themselves Christian.  The name of her church is "The church of Jesus Christ" now that's odd, being they don't believe that He is God.

Thanks Craig:  I await your answer and please don't make it too long or complicated.  This woman that I'm going to talk to is very simple and she will require a simple answer.  I personally know that Jesus is my Lord and my Savior but I had never heard of anyone not believing that Jesus is God.  Oh well! I guess there is a lot I don't know.

Hi Roselee,

Thanks for your patience; I’ll try to make this as simple as possible, but unbeknownst to you, this is not a topic that is as “simple” to explain.  Unfortunately, we have been spoon fed on false doctrine in the Christian churches for over 2000 years since the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ.

Most of or all of our present-day Christian theology (study of God’s nature) and ‘Christology’ (study of God’s nature) theologians posing as ‘Christian scholars’ have duped true believers such as you and me into accepting Jesus Christ as “God.”  Jesus Christ is our ‘Lord’ not our God.  Jesus Christ is our Savior, not our God.  There is only ONE God and there is only ONE mediator between that ONE God and mankind.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is ONE GOD, and ONE MEDIATOR also between God and men, THE MAN CHRIST JESUS. New American Standard Bible

How much clearer is that?  One God.  One mediator, the “man” Christ Jesus, not the “God” Christ Jesus.  That’s as simple as I can make it for your reply to this caregiver Roselee, but if you’d like more in-depth answers, let me know.

Love in Jesus~

Did I understand this that Jesus is not God and the caretaker for my friend is correct?  He is  mediator and advocate but not God!  I always thought He was God the Son!  Oh well, still learning!

July 19, 2006

Hi Roselee,

Please bear with me, the daily chronic physical pain is so intense today, I’m barely able to see, talk, or swallow.  I hope I’m able to make sense and offer a reasonable answer your questions.  Do not fear questioning THE DEITY OF CHRIST; it is not heresy to do so, nor does it rob God of His glory.  Neither does the denial of the deity of Christ automatically align your beliefs with those of the Jehovah's Witnesses, as is the typical ad hominem argument your will hear those Christians presently unwilling to let go of the milk bottle and eat meat from the word.  Ad hominem means to assault the person instead of logically addressing their argument and ad hominem tactics appeal to people’s emotions and beliefs rather than their ability to think.  Besides, Jehovah's Witnesses make the fundamental error of failing to be JESUS’ WITNESSES,, as the Lord himself instructs his disciples to be in the context of Acts 1:8 and Luke 24:49.

Acts 1:1-11 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about ALL THAT JESUS BEGAN TO DO AND TO TEACH 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.  5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."  6 So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"  7 He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.  8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; AND YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."  9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.  10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.  11 "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here LOOKING INTO THE SKY? THIS same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."  New International Version

Instead, by acknowledging Jesus as the Son of God, and embracing his true identity as a man, you will give the Father all the MORE glory, and you will be honoring the Son of God for the very purpose that he lived his entire life on earth.  Jesus is a man, and as such, he truly is our example and model how to live for God and how to love Him with all of our heart, mind, soul, spirit, and strength, and how to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Some Christians ask this question Roselee, “HOW CAN JESUS’ DEATH BE A SACRIFICE IF GOD KNEW HE WOULD NOT DIE?”  Click onto this hyperlink, and you will find a simple, but detailed explanation from Scripture to explain what the sacrifice of Jesus’ blood truly meant, and it has nothing to do with him being “God.”  Instead, Jesus is called “the LAMB OF GOD” which means he was the only human being EVER to be sinless his entire life.  That qualified him as satisfying the Law’s requirements for a blood sacrifice to atone for the sins of the nation of Israel and for the entire world, of those who believe.

Even those wicked Jewish leaders, who plotted against Jesus, and instigated his death, were also instrumental in prophesying of the fulfillment of scripture’s requirement that one man die.  This happened when Caiaphas the High Priest prophesied as God took over his voice box and mouth, and inspired him to speak and explain the true meaning of why a MAN MUST DIE FOR THE SACRIFICE TO BE ACCEPTABLE IN GOD’S SIGHT.

&                  John 11:46-53 But some of them went back to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.  47 So the chief priests and Pharisees called a meeting of the council (the Sanhedrin) and said, “What are we to do? For THIS MAN {Jesus} performs many signs (evidences, miracles). 48 If we let HIM alone to go on like this, everyone will believe in HIM and adhere to HIM, and the Romans will come and suppress and destroy and take away our [holy] place and our nation [our temple and city and our civil organization]. 49 but one of them, Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year, declared, “You know nothing at all!  50 nor do you understand or reason out that it is expedient and better for your own welfare that ONE MAN should die on behalf of the people than that the whole nation should perish (be destroyed, ruined).”  51 now he did not say this simply of his own accord [he was not self-moved]; but being the high priest that year, HE PROPHESIED THAT JESUS WAS TO DIE FOR THE NATION, 52 and not only for the nation but also for the purpose of uniting into one body the children of God who have been scattered far and wide. 53 So from that day on they took counsel and plotted together how they might put Him to death. Amplified Bible

Over and over Jesus told his disciples and taught the people that, “I CAN DO NOTHING OF MYSELF, BUT ONLY WHAT THE FATHER GIVES ME TO DO.  His very innermost desire was always to be pleasing to the Father.  Jesus is not ‘God the son’ but he IS the Son of God (big difference).  The phrase SON OF GOD refers to Jesus’ origin; in other words, God was his Dad AND Mary the human woman was his mother.  Jesus was preconceived, conceived in the fertile ovum of Mary during her ovulation cycle, and the fallen Adamic weaknesses inherent to all humanity were bypassed by God, in His infinite wisdom, giving Jesus the ‘edge’ he needed to walked in close fellowship and intimate obedience with his Father God.

Luke 1:26-38 In the sixth month, GOD SENT THE ANGEL Gabriel to Nazareth, (NOTE: “GOD SENT” the angel Gabriel) a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to A MAN NAMED JOSEPH, A DESCENDANT OF DAVID. The virgin's name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”  29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God (NOTE: “favor WITH GOD”.  31 You will be WITH CHILD and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.  32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him THE THRONE OF HIS FATHER DAVID, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."  34 "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" 35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. SO THE HOLY ONE TO BE BORN will be called THE SON OF GOD.  36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37 For nothing is impossible with God."  38 "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.  New International Version

Roselee, notice the continual contrast between “God” who is “the Most High” and “Jesus” who is a “child” to be “born” to a “virgin.”  The reason Jesus is called “THE SON OF GOD” is simply because God the Father created the sperm in the womb of the virgin Mary.

The terminology “God the son” originated in about 325 AD during the Council of Nicea.  Three terms were given to represent the three persons of “GOD.”   THE TRINITY IS FALSE TEACHING ABOUT THE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT; it is a form of polytheism, though few Christians will acknowledge this point.  By definition three is not one, and one is not three.  But most Christians are not as objective as you Roselee, and most are not as secure as you in their relationship with Jesus Christ to examine every word and test it by the ultimate standard, the Scriptures.

1.      GOD #1 = God the Father

2.      GOD #2 = God the son

3.      GOD #3 = God the Holy Spirit

The term “TRINITY” is not in Scriptures; it was borrowed from the Roman (pagan) “triad,” a triangular symbol used by the pagan priests at Athens, Greece and also in the city of Rome.   The Roman triad consisted of three principal deities, Zeus, Hercules, and Diana (depending on which sect you ask, these three names can vary and differ).  To make Christianity appealing to the predominantly pagan Roman population, Emperor Constantine convened a Roman Catholic Church council in 323-325 AD to define the “official state religion” and demanded that theologians produce a “creed” that spells out the exact dogmas (teaching).

Although not drafted in writing until the 8th century AD, the ‘Athanasian Creed’ was written in honor of Athanasius (who had nothing to do with the creed), and the word “trinity” was borrowed from a 2nd century heretic and false teacher named Tertullian and used to selectively define three distinct persons of God, instead of the one God of the Scriptures.  The trinity teaching remained in place as deceptive teaching until the great reformation, when men began to study the bible methodically, learning that what Roman Catholic Church priests and popes had said about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit was wrong.

Mark 12:29-32 JESUS ANSWERED, “The first and principal one of all commands is: HEAR, O ISRAEL, THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30 and you shall love the Lord your God out of and with your whole heart and out of and with all your soul (your life) and out of and with all your mind (with your faculty of thought and your moral understanding) and out of and with all your strength.  This is the first and principal commandment.  [Deuteronomy 6:4,5.]  31 The second is like it and is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.’” [Leviticus 19:18.]  32 and the scribe said TO JESUS, “excellently and fitly and admirably answered, teacher! You have said truly that HE IS ONE, and THERE IS NO OTHER {GOD} BUT HIM.” Amplified Bible

Jesus Christ is a glorified man in a position of authority at god’s right hand

John 17:1-3 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up his eyes to heaven, He said, “FATHER, the hour has come; GLORIFY YOUR SON, that the son may GLORIFY YOU, 2 EVEN AS YOU GAVE HIM AUTHORITY (NOTE: If JESUS was ‘GOD’ then he would already have all authority) over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life.  3 This is eternal life, that they may know YOU, the ONLY TRUE GOD, (NOTE: If Jesus was God, then who is he speaking to?) and JESUS CHRIST whom YOU have SENT. (NOTE: GOD cannot be ‘SENT’ anywhere because He is everywhere).  New American Standard Bible - Updated Edition

Acts 17:30-31 "Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, GOD is now declaring to men that all everywhere should repent, 31 BECAUSE HE has fixed a day in which HE WILL JUDGE THE WORLD in righteousness THROUGH A MAN WHOM HE HAS APPOINTED, having furnished proof to all men BY RAISING HIM FROM THE DEAD. "  New American Standard Bible

Romans 3:29-30 Or is God the God of Jews only?  Is He not the God of Gentiles also?  Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since INDEED GOD WHO WILL JUSTIFY the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith IS ONE. New American Standard Bible - Updated Edition

Most relevant to your question Roselee, JESUS SAYS THAT HE TOO HAS A “GOD” OVER HIM, and Jesus is in total submission to God the father for all eternity.  Read carefully what Jesus says NOW in heaven and from his position in eternity about his “God”.  If he says that he has “My God” in heaven, then he cannot BE God at the same time. Jesus said from heaven to the apostle John in Revelation 3:12 (see below):

Revelation 3:12 {JESUS SAID} “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of MY GOD , and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write upon him the name of MY GOD, and the name of the city of MY GOD , the new Jerusalem, which comes down OUT OF HEAVEN FROM MY GOD , and My new name.  New American Standard Bible

When the man Jesus Christ died upon the cross, he cried out saying, “MY God, MY God…”  This cannot be “God” crying out to God.

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour JESUS CRIED OUT WITH A LOUD VOICE, SAYING, " ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI? "that is," MY GOD , MY GOD , WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME? " New American Standard Bible

Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour JESUS CRIED OUT with a loud voice, "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" WHICH IS TRANSLATED, "MY GOD, MY GOD , WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?" New American Standard Bible

When Mary saw Jesus after God raised him from the dead, Jesus said to her that he had not yet ascended to “MY God” and “YOUR God.”  This is yet another proof that Jesus is not God.

John 20:16-17 JESUS SAID TO HER, "Mary!" She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, "RABBONI!" (which means, TEACHER). 17 JESUS SAID to her, "Stop clinging to ME, for I HAVE NOT YET ASCENDED to THE FATHER; but go to MY BRETHREN, and say to them, 'I ASCEND TO MY FATHER AND YOUR FATHER, AND MY GOD AND YOUR GOD.'"  New American Standard Bible

Some people point to John 20:28, where Thomas said to Jesus after doubting his resurrection, after Jesus entered the room, and showed Thomas his nail scarred hands and feet, saying to the Lord, “My Lord and My God!”

John 20:27-31Then He said to Thomas, "Reach here your finger, and see MY HANDS; and reach here your hand, and put it into MY SIDE; and be not unbelieving, but believing."  28 Thomas answered and said to Him, "MY LORD AND MY GOD !" 29 JESUS SAID TO HIM, "Because you have SEEN ME, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed."  30 MANY OTHER SIGNS THEREFORE JESUS ALSO PERFORMED IN THE PRESENCE OF THE DISCIPLES, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD; and that believing you may have life in His name.  New American Standard Bible

Was Thomas confused?  Why did he call Jesus “MY GOD?”  Isn’t this a contradiction to what Jesus said to Mary just 11 verses earlier in John 20:17?  Did Jesus say he was “ascending” to “MY GOD” and to “YOUR GOD?”  What’s up here?  The explanation is simple, and is found just a few verses later in John 20:31, showing that the use of the word “God” is not limited to Deity alone, but is a term of honor to the One man that God has exalted to the position of rulership over this spiritual creation we call the church.  Look again at what Jesus says in the Book of Revelation 3:2 below.

Revelation 3:2 {JESUS SAID} 'Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds COMPLETED IN THE SIGHT OF MY GOD.  New American Standard Bible

The Greek word that is translated as “God” in most places of the New Testament is “theós” and this word has more than the definition of Deity.  Look at the dictionary definitions taken from some of the Greek language tools used by all Christian scholars and notice that they define theós as also applicable to someone in the position of a MAGISTRATE”.  The word ‘MAGISTRATE” is from the Latin “MAGISand our English word “MAJESTY” originates from MAGIS.  Therefore, whenever theós appears in the New Testament and refers to the man Christ Jesus, it is not referring top him as “GOD” but as the God-appointed “Majesty” or “King” over the new creation.  Below are two good Greek language Dictionaries; the first one is Strong’s Exhaustive Greek New Testament Dictionary, and the second one is from the Greek lexicon dictionary definitions taken from the Online Bible software program.
