Q & A – Questions about The Da Vinci Code and Jesus’ Human Identity

Subject: Could Jesus Reproduce

Dear Craig,

I just finished watching The History Channel on the Da Vinci theory.  Because Jesus had the HOLY y chromosome, was he able to produce children?

I couldn’t say that he was never married, because he was a man, why has this been such a secret to everyone?

I don’t believe it would make Jesus less a God because of his manly desire for a woman.  What are your feelings about this?

I liked your web site and what you had to say about chromosomes.

Thank you,

Laurie

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for writing to me about Jesus’ male chromosome and the television program you watched about The Da Vinci Code, based on book by Dan Brown.  Brown’s novel may be somewhat lacking in historical accuracy; nevertheless, God is using the book’s popularity as a best seller to focus attention upon His son, the man Christ Jesus.  Indented below, I listed all three of your questions in blue, with the answer to each question following.

QUESTION #1 – “ I just finished watching The History Channel on the Da Vinci theory.  Because Jesus had the holy Y-Chromosome, was he able to produce children? ”

I have not watched the History Channel’s program about The Da Vinci Code, so have no clue what is meant by a ‘holy Y-Chromosome.’  To answer your first question, we must first establish there is only ONE God, the Father, and He alone is the Creator of the earth and its inhabitants.

1 Corinthians 8:5-6 According to some people, there are many so-called gods and many lords, both in heaven and on earth.   But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created everything, and we exist for him.  And there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ.  NLT

Malachi 2:10 Have we not all one Father?  Did not one God create us?  NIV

Ephesians 4:6 There is only one God and Father, who is over us all and in us all and living through us all.  NLT

We have established there is only one God, who is the Father of Jesus; the next fact to establish, so that your question can properly be answered, is that Jesus is a male human being.

1 Timothy 2:5-6 For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and people.  He is the man Christ Jesus.  He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.  This is the message that God gave to the world at the proper time.  NLT

The scripture text above in 1 Timothy 2:5 contrasts the difference between Deity and humanity; combined with the other scripture verses presented thus far, below are the final identifications of each:

·        There is only one God, the Father, who created everything & us.

·        There is only one Mediator & Lord; he is the man Christ Jesus

Jesus is a man in every respect, with the exception that God the Father procreated the human spermatozoa in Mary’s womb, by making it with the essential physical properties such as the male Y-Chromosome; however, this fact alone does not presuppose that the chromosome itself is holy.  The Y-Chromosome consists of matter (gamete cells) that God created, yet is only one of many composite physical elements vital for human reproduction.

To categorize the Y-Chromosome by itself as being set-apart for God’s purposes is incorrect and incomplete.  In the Greek New Testament the word hágion translated as, ‘holy’ means the same thing as being set-apart or consecrated.  On the other hand, the male child that was conceived as a result of what God procreated IS properly classified as ‘holy’ in the scriptures.  There are simple, clear proofs in the New Testament that it is the male, human baby born that does not confuse Jesus with spurious doctrines that assert he is a deity:

Galatians 4:4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law.  New International Version

Luke 1:35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.  So the baby born to you will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.”  New Living Translation

In Luke 1:35 the angel tells Mary, “… the baby born to you will be holy,” and set-apart to be called the Son of God.”  This means his calling included becoming the sacrificial Lamb, slain for mankind’s sin.  Jesus did not violate God’s purpose for his life (i.e. – to save mankind & reconcile him to God).  However, as a man, had Jesus gotten married, it follows logically that he and his would-be wife, if both were reproductively healthy, would be able to reproduce human offspring.

The Da Vinci Code is aimed at correcting serious doctrinal errors and deception invented by the Roman Catholic Church.  I agree that Jesus was born solely as a human being, yet Roman Catholic Church doctrines about his so-called “deity” have had an adverse affect, in not only Christian church doctrines, but also in how poorly Bible translators mistranslate Hebrew and Greek words, so that Bible verses validate their theology and Christology.

In Luke 1:35, Mary’s baby boy Jesus, still in her womb, is compared to her cousin Elizabeth’s baby boy, still in her womb, (by this time Elizabeth was about 6 months into her pregnancy with John the Baptist).

Luke 1:36 “And listen!  Your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is now the sixth month with her who was called barren.”  Amplified Bible

This should settle the issue of Jesus’ human birth and one final scripture that shows how Jesus grew up as any other Jewish boy, (having no supernatural powers whatsoever) should end doubts.  Notice the similarities between John and Jesus, as cousins growing up during their boyhood, mentioned in the Bible verses from the gospel of Luke below; I have put the names of each boy {John & Jesus} inserted in brackets into the Bible text below:

Luke 1:80 And the little boy {John} grew and became strong in spirit; and he was in the deserts (wilderness) until the day of his appearing to Israel; the commencement of his public ministry. AMP

Luke 2:39-40 When Jesus' parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee.  There the child {Jesus} grew strong in body and wise in spirit.  And the grace of God was on him.

39 NLT 40 Message

There is no mention of Jesus as being anything other than a male human being; like his cousin John, he grew strong in body as he matured in years.  If he was deity, his strength could not be increased or decreased.  Now lastly, at age twelve, the Bible verse below further corroborates him as human, not as divine:

Luke 2:52 And Jesus matured, growing up in both body and spirit, blessed by both God and people.  Message

Like I said Laurie, there are Bible verses that have been corrupted by the original teachings of the Roman Catholic Church concerning Jesus’ purported, “deity.”  Careless study of the original Greek and Hebrew text corroborates what I have said here.  I have many studies online that will assist you in further research.

QUESTION #2 -  “ I couldn’t say that he {Jesus} was never married, (because he was a man).  Why has this {his humanity} been such a secret to everyone? ”

The reason that Jesus’ humanity, or his, “manly desire for a woman,” as you put it, has been kept such a, “secret to everyone,” in large part due to a pervasive, lackadaisical attitude among individual Christians to serious study of the Scriptures AND ignorance of church history.  I have already proven he is human being, and not Deity.  In 1 Timothy 2:5 he is called, “the man Christ Jesus.” I have also shown that there is only one God, the Father.

The “secret” you inquired about, is one of the fundamentals Brown mentions in The Da Vinci Code when he exposes how the Roman Catholic Church foisted a theological cover-up of Jesus’ human identity, making him a “Deity,” during debates at The Council of Nicea, in 325 A.D.  I have many articles about this posted at my web site; look for titles of studies that have words like, “The Man Christ Jesus, the Trinity, Greek Philosophy, Creeds, etc.”

Theology and politics were what the Roman Catholic Church was founded upon and its early church leaders are now known as ‘church fathers.’  They promoted the need for a Roman universal (catholic means universal) church that was officially sanctioned by the Emperor Constantine, becoming the state religion and replacing the Greek pantheon.

As I understand Dan Brown’s book, The Da Vinci Code, once established, all doctrines about God, Christ, or other doctrinal exegesis were filtered thru the Vatican.  However, the deception about Jesus’ deity began early in the first century A.D., when false teachers, promoting Neo-Platonism’s dualism, infected the teachings of the church about God and Jesus.

QUESTION #3 - “ I don’t believe it would make Jesus less a God because of his manly desire for a woman.  What are your feelings about this?

Of course Jesus had feelings of a man, and anyone that denies this using theology is misled.  Having human feelings makes Jesus human and the perception of him taking on any form of deity, lesser or greater, is simply a misrepresentation of his true identity.  This is an extremely complex historical topic, centered upon Neo-Platonism’s influence using, “Dualism,” to affix human traits, characteristics, and even human bodies of flesh, by which the Greek gods and goddesses could be incarnated.

I have some very detailed and lengthy thoughts about this issue, but am uncertain of just how in-depth you wish to pursue the topic.  Stay in touch, and let me know.  I’d be glad to give further commentary, as time allows.

God bless you Laurie, in Jesus name and love,
