A Constellation of False Doctrine

Part One

Kenneth James Solheim Th.B.

In an earlier debate concerning the Trinity and Oneness doctrines, I raised the issue that one reason I reject the doctrine of the Trinity is that there is a huge constellation of false doctrine orbiting it. It was after this debate that I decided to make a list of the different false doctrines that have been given birth because of the Trinity doctrine.   Kenneth James Solheim Th.B.

No. 5 Mariology, Marian Devotion, and Marian Doctrine

One of the most absurd false doctrines that arose from the Trinity is that Marry is the Mother of God, or as the men who brought the Trinity to the Christian church called her the “God Bearer”.

A Brief History of Mariology

The first stage of the Church’s History is dominated with extreme growth and persecution. After the persecution the main question the church faced was what to do with the priests and bishops who failed, those who turned over sacred scrolls and accepted the false gods of the Roman Empire. By their capitulation they saved their own lives.

After deciding that the capitulators were to lose their former ministries and never allow them to hold another ministry the defenders of the church tock on all apparent Heresies. During this time the Church leaders began to form a doctrine called the Trinity. Much of the work was done in the school of Alexandria Egypt were there was a strong mix of Hellenistic Judaism, Neoplatonism, and Gnosticism.

At the Council of Nicea, the first ecumenical council held in 325 AD, the church fathers decided upon the orthodox view concerning the nature of the relationship between Jesus and His Father.

The Council of Nicea condemned Arianism, which rejected the idea that Jesus was God and emphasized the natural man, and they established the Nicene Creed. Even though Bishop Athanasius’ views were accepted as orthodox the Arian opposition continued as late as the 6th century. Other “heresies” arose which kept the defenders of the church busy and added more elements to the fledgling Trinity doctrine. One of these heresies was the Arian throwback Apollinarianism, Apollinarianism taught that Christ had no human intellect.

In 381 at the Council of Constantinople, the second ecumenical council, Arianism and Apollinarianism was condemned and the Nicene Creed was reaffirmed.

After this council arose the Nestorian “heresy” which attributed to Christ an integral human consciousness with a distinct psychological ego. They taught that Mary was the mother of the human nature of Christ. The Orthodox believers saw this as an attack upon the God nature of Christ, which was a strong component of Alexandria school of Theology.

Another heresy of this time was Eutychianism which claimed that Christ’s humanity was swallowed up by the Divine Nature in Him, this resulted in a view that Christ had only one Will and one activity, that of the Divine. The Orthodox developers countered with “the communication of idioms” meaning that the sole person of the Word possessed the entire human and divine attributes, the two natures in Christ, and those who resisted this view were called “Monophysites”, meaning one nature.

“It was a time when the Alexandrian and Antiochene theological schools vied with each other for the control of the theology of the church.” (Britannica 2004 under “the anti-Nicene period [from patristic literature]) Time and time again the Antiochene School’s views were seen as Heresies and the much larger and politically powerful Alexandrian school’s teachings being viewed as Orthodox.

In the Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD, the fourth ecumenical council, Eutychianism was condemned. It seemed that at this time Christ had been described as a man containing two “persons”, two natures and two wills.

The Beginning of a Horrendous Lie; Mary the Mother of God

Once Christ was determined to be both man and god this paved the way to glorify Mary, to lift her out of the Church and place her above the church. After The Council of Chalcedon, Mary the Mother of Jesus walked into a magician’s closet, the door closed, the closet spun in a circle, and once the door was opened again out stepped Mary the Mother of God. This is some 400 years after the death of Jesus, some 300 years after the deaths of the twelve Apostles.

Mary, of course, is never called “the Mother of God” in the Holy Scriptures and it is a total waste of time to point this out, just as it is to do to Trinitarians about their doctrine. Mary the Mother of God was simply the logical conclusion of the development of Jesus becoming a god. He was no longer Jesus Christ of Nazareth “in whom dwelt the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9) but Jesus became god and Mary, the Mother of God.

The Immaculate Conception

The next logical development involving the historical person Mary, now called the Mother of God, was that she must have been sinless! For how could a sin stained person bear God?!

“…Mary had been foreordained by God from the beginning to her divine motherhood and that she was conceived ‘full of grace’ and thus placed in the singular position of being the most perfect human being that an omnipotent God could create. She was immaculately conceived;” (The Catholic Encyclopedia, page 374)

Those who had hijacked the memory of a Christian woman and made her the Mother of God was now teaching that she was sinless from conception. But, what does the Bible say?

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10-12, KJV)

Perpetual Virginity

This is by far the most ridiculous doctrine that has been foisted upon the memory of the woman who bore Jesus, who watched him grow, who was with him when he was on the cruel cross, and who was with the other believers when the Holy Spirit fell on Pentecost. In the Lateran Council of 649 it was determined that Mary remained a virgin all of her life. (I guess the idea of “the Mother of God” doing the dirty thing, even with her lawful husband, was unimaginable to these “holy men”.)

Please never forget, those wonderful men in priestly garb, who brought us the Trinity are responsible for all of this also. And please do not forget that the Trinity doctrine is a “revealed” doctrine (ISBE - The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) not a doctrine built upon the Holy Scriptures, just like the Trinity, the doctrine of Perpetual Virginity is a revealed doctrine!! Need I mention the scriptures?

“There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.” (Mark 3:31-35 KJV)

There is also 1 Corinthians 9:5 where Jesus brothers are mentioned again and finally, the fact that Jesus is called Mary’s “firstborn” (Matthew 1:25; and Luke 2:7). What is interesting to me is that this is the first of the Marion doctrines that the Church offers a defense, they claim that in the Aramaic the word translated “brothers” can also be used for anyone close to the family and to cousins.

The Assumption

Well, you can’t have your typical Mother of God rotting in a grave now can you? If Jesus was taken into heaven we can not have “the most perfect human being that an omnipotent God could create” (The Catholic Encyclopedia, p.374) see corruption. Without any attempt to raise scriptural foundation, on November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII declared the doctrine of Our Lady’s Assumption.

Actually, I was being a little outrageous; according to the men who brought the Trinity and Mary worship into the Christian church they took the angel Gabriel’s announcement and Mary’s response as basis for Mary’s eternal ministry.

“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth…and the virgin’s name was Mary…Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women…And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.”

It is here that the whole mess of Mary doctrines becomes horrendous, the Catholic Church that brought all of us the doctrine of the Trinity, made Mary a co-worker with Christ and has added extra titles. She is now called the “Co-Redemptrix and the Mediatrix of all graces.” (The Catholic Encyclopedia, p 370) Whatever ministry that Jesus now assumes, whatever powers and graces that are available for His Ministry are also given to Mary!

In the early church Mary was counted with the faithful who followed Jesus and obeyed Him and waited in Jerusalem for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit; Today she is the Mother of all the redeemed, she is the Queen of Heaven, she is the fulfillment of all the messianic prophecies beginning with Gen 3 where she is the “woman” whose seed shall destroy the serpent. She is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophesies of a virgin bringing forth a son (Isaiah 7:14). They have taken their eyes off of the Lord and made a woman a demi-god. And all of this was made possible by evil men of the 4th and 5th century who made Jesus Christ a god and Mary, the mother of Christ, the Mother of God!

The Trinity is not a mystery it is a lie. The evil men who infected the Christian Church with the trinity is also responsible for all of the abominations concerning Mary the Mother of Christ.
