My dear Christians sisters and brothers, how many times have we sinned the same sin?† How many times have we let our eyes wander onto forbidden flesh?† How many times have we gotten angry and sinned?† How many times have we said something hurtful and despicable to our spouse or our children?
Over and over and over again we sin.† Over and over and over again we ask God to forgive us.† Over and over and over again we confess our sins to our brethren in humility, and then guess what?† We commit the same old sin again!
After awhile, we begin to doubt the sincerity of our repentance.† After all, if we really MEANT, ďIím sorry Lord,Ē then why, oh WHY do we do it again and again?† Have you felt the lingering bad feelings?† Have you felt the shame?† Have you felt the disappointment in yourself?† Intellectually you and I may believe God forgives, but deep inside, those repetitious sins are the ones that make us sick inside.† They plague us like a bad case of athleteís foot fungus.† No matter how much grace and mercy medicine we put on it, it always comes back.
I donít know all the reasons why we sin the same old sin over and over.† I donít know why it is so easy to fall into the clutches of temptation and allow lust to conceive, and give birth to sin.† But one thing I DO know, it seems easier to believe Iím not forgiven, than to believe I am forgiven.
Well dear friends, I choose to believe He forgives me.† I choose to accept and trust in the death and resurrection of Godís son.† I willingly embrace forgiveness, and even though Iíve failed God time and time again, and committed the same old sin over and over, I believe Iím forgiven.
